In Kiyoko's experience, most of her adventures tend to wrap up within a few hours. A breezy weekend at the worst. But humans generally seem to do everything at a much faster pace than frogs. They never even have time to laze about on a lily pad!
So frankly, she's a little caught off guard to realize just how long-term this whole "summon to another world" project really is. But hey, the Princess asked for help and Kiyoko accepted the invite. The only thing to do from here is to give it her all!
That said, she's not providing a great first impression in the Menthward district. She's not arguing exactly, but she keeps tapping a credit card on different parts of stalls despite the endlessly patient explanations of the merchants.
"No, it's okay, I'll find the little scanner. It wouldn't be good for the economy if I didn't at least try!"
It is not communicating the sort of down to earth attitude she'd like to project and it's also. Really annoying with the rain. But she also just really wants these little wooden carvings to decorate her living space with. And they said they didn't really take bills instead of the crowns so. The credit card makes sense. Right? Right!
Her umbrella and raincoat are doing a lot of legwork in keeping Kiyoko dry but. A keen eye might eventually pick up that skin that's touched water looks remarkably geeener than it should. Maybe it's just a trick of the light though.
Still, this whole place seems... somewhat sickly. Is that normal here? Or maybe it just comes with the season? She figures the least she can do is trying and help out while she's getting the lay of the land. She can be found scurrying around the barracks and the salon, trying to help out any little task she sees people doing. It's a little easy for her to get distracted by any games or stray conversations she comes across.
It sort of has the impact of being in the way of people who actually know what they're doing. An interaction or two don't go quite the way she planned in her head and. Well, if the pile of broken ceramic shards she's currently cleaning up in the castle halls are any indication, she might have tipped directly into a passing servant moving things around. Kiyoko's flailing a little desperately, trying to sweep up as best she's able, even as shards sort of keep... sticking to her as she picks them up.
"No really- I got it! I just, erm... maybe there's glue? You guys have glue? Or maybe- I could train under a craftsman! Would that work?"
[By now, Yayoi's gotten over her illness. So she's heading back out to Menthward, to decide if she's feeling better enough to set up her stall. Umbrella, raincoat, she's taking much more care to stay dry this time.
Until she spots a new person. With what is definitely a card. Trying to tap it to pay on things.
She has to take a moment to pinch the bridge of her nose. She's not much better at keeping secrets, but still.
Yayoi simply walks over, chops Kiyoko in the back of the head, and turns to the merchants-]
Sorry, she's with us advisors, I'll teach her how to shop here.
[Deep breath. Count to ten. Make a mental promise to buy Simran, Yoojin, and everyone else who has answered her dumb questions the best cakes she can afford, or something similar. This must be what it feels like to be on the other end of her.]
Okay what's the timeline on that. Is that enough of an acknowledgment to damn her soul back into amphibiadom. A guaranteed kick back from the ability to talk and straight into the ribbit trashcan. Maybe she can course correct.]
Meanwhile, Hayasaka was stretching and returning from working in the library. She'd lost time due to being sick but was lucky enough to not really be delayed in anything she needed to do. The fun of volunteering!
As she walked down the castle halls, she spots this... uh, very, very, potentially amusing scene. The poor girl's trying so hard, and all she can do is just remark from where she's standing.
"How long do you plan to train under a craftsman to fix it?"
That seems like a long way to go, but who knows? What she broke might cost an exorbitant amount of money, and it's not like it'd be easy for her to make that money back.
Her hands are still kind of scrambling around, clinging to and sticking to various shards. She can't help but YIPE at the sudden appearance of a new voice, leaping into the air just a little too high for the average person.
Her hands do a sort of defensive dance in the air as she tries to come up with the proper defense and explanation.
"Erm, well. Uh." She glances between Ai and the remaining shards, puzzling together her thoughts. Crafting... truthfully she'd normally just pay to replace something like this but it sounds like that wouldn't work like usual. Maybe it's too sentimental. But would making something really be able to match that kind of sentiment?
"I guess it depends on how long it takes to learn?"
That's a good answer. At least, it would be if this wouldn't immediately be an issue in a normal situation. Ai can imagine what the next step would be if this girl broke something in the Shinomiya household. She'd be working it off for the rest of her life, regardless of the price.
She makes her way over and crouches down, cupping her chin in thought.
"Do you think you have all of the shards together yet? We should put it all in a box for now."
She looks down at her hands, spreading out and flexing her fingers experimentally. Several shards are sticking to her skin, but thats a frog stickiness and not an actual harm situation. She displays them with an awkward grin.
"I got most of them!"
Is that a normal thing to say? She doesn't think about it for the moment- she'll focus on gathering up the other pieces for their repair needs.
“That’s not what I—“ Ai trails off, immediately realizing that explaining it would be too much of a pain. “Never mind. Anyway, I’m sure we can make it look as good as new, and if not, we can take it to someone who can.”

H-hey! I was- I'm supporting local businesses here!
no subject
Credit cards and card-tapping technology don't exist here.
no subject
Technology? I don't know anything about that... I'm just buying stuff.
no subject
Look, just... cards don't work here.
Did no one give you the rundown?
no subject
[She said chipper and bright.]
no subject
no subject
[Still said brightly.]

[That's not...]

She's a rich idiot. Yayoi is having to hold herself back from committing violence.]
That's not how it works here. Okay? You aren't getting anything if you don't have the money, up front.
no subject
no subject
I mean the card doesn't work here. So you have to have Crowns, physically, with you, and hand them over, before you get anything.
no subject
[She looks down, trying to calculate the information as best she's able.]
...but the card is physical?
[She's not doing this on purpose I swear.]
no subject
The card isn't Crowns.
no subject
[She says it so gently. As if Yayoi is the one misunderstanding.]
no subject
Are you doing this on purpose?!
no subject
H-Huh?! I was just trying to get some nice stuff! You're the one not making sense!
no subject
And what part isn't making sense?
no subject
The card is physical and it gets you things you want, even if it's not quite what they're asking for! It's one of the basic human things they do!
no subject
Okay. So you're not human. That helps explain a few things.

But we're supposed to keep the fact that we're from other worlds secret.

[Okay, now she's doing it on purpose.]

Do you need me to spell out exactly where you went wrong, then?

[No court would convict Yayoi.]

I need you to understand how hard I am having to try to not kick your ass right now.

"Hold on, are you okay? That's a lot of glass. Do you need bandages first?"

She looks down at her hands again, wiggling them once more.
"...No, they're not heavy at all!"
