A Hundred Nights In a New Land (January Catchall)
Who: Dainsleif and whoever.
When: Vague points in the month of January.
Where: Various.
What: Bloomcraft, general points of interaction, and lingering.
( Ooc: If there is interest in closed starters, let me know, and I will set something up. )
Scenario I. New Days (The Temporary Life; two areas/prompts)
[ Dainsleif has been taking the time in order to acclimate to the general and current climate of Rosavelle, though as usual he is the kind of individual who keeps to mostly himself - though, he hasn't been invisible.
He can be found at the library - not just a singular one, but the Amourian Library, first to merely brush up on more knowledge surrounding the kingdom and the Everbloom. Perhaps even looking to brush up on studies even outside of the required time, fingers lightly paging through information on the background of the country in of itself. Here, he is quiet and focused - but, if someone wants to approach for whatever reason, they can.
Though, at one point one can see one brow slowly arc as he stumbles across a particularly interesting tale - or perhaps, a bit fantastical - and him letting out a judgmental hum. Although, personally for him...nothing incredibly alarming to suggest the intentions of this land and its ruler have been any different than presented. So, good.
The other place of quiet is the Hearthhall Archive to supplement his knowledge, although he is more or less using this chance for leisure than not. He is seated wherever there are chairs available, and seems engrossed in a story - enough that he doesn't make a single sound. ]
Scenario II. Never a Dull Moment
[ After necessary quiet time, Dainsleif can be found at the Hearthsong Salon, two books nearby him. But also a stack of paper with him; it seems right away he is writing something, or testing it, as it were.
After a quick spot of light, and with a swift maneuver of his writing, there is a spark of something, and he seems to stare at it. If someone approaches, the blond turns to face them, and ask: ]
...Did you come to work on something?
[ Or peace and quiet? ]
Scenario III. A Budding, (Un)familiar purpose
[ Dainsleif seems to be intent at trying his hand at his current work, out in the open...in a sense, since he's hanging around the Stag's Rest Lounge - a more quaint location. Fabrics lay about while he has seated himself down upon a comfortable sofa - and said fabrics are on part of the sofa.
There are also small knick knacks laying about to, with other items like a sewing needle, and adequate thread.
He's frowning at the collection, probably not knowing where to start. ]
Scenario IV. Shadow of the Sword (Castle Grounds)
[ Morning brings its usual suspects. Dainsleif does not oft paint himself as an individual who tends towards early day greetings, so he goes without.
Instead, around this time he has taken up the opportunity to practice. With room set aside thanks to the Dawnfield Grounds being what it is, and he does not stop even with the weather in mind. Light snowfall or no. Bitter chills or no. He is swinging with a blade he has taken time to procure before his arrival here.
There is nothing particularly special about it, but in between that he seems to stop, bringing up a right hand. ]
...all seems to be in order.
[ By which he means no odd, adverse changes, once again affirming the natural nature of this world as something not twisted in its foundations. Though, there still is much to be done, even with time on his hands. Perhaps, more importantly, he should consider himself fortunate that he has managed as much contact as he has. ]
Scenario V. Normalcy in the Dark
[ When nightfall catches itself upon the land, Dainsleif takes more public strolls, basking in the silence of a world stolen by light snow.
Or, perhaps, if someone is really looking for him, they can find him strangely atop one of the rooftops of a house or building, instead of fast asleep, gazing up at the night sky - at peace and silent as he so prefers to be. ]
Scenario VI. Dormancy at "Home" Away from Home (Hydrangea Residence)
[ Or if people in Hydrangea wish to catch Dainsleif somewhere close by, he is a constant fixture here more than anywhere else.
Although, he doesn't ever really seem to bother others on a constant; rather, it is a matter of happenstance most of the time. But, in the evenings he can be seen often gazing out at the window with a cup of tea, or a book on hand. Now that it is warmer, it may be switched up with other warmer drinks.
As of late, this goes on for a few more hours, as Dain has become less and less inclined to sleep in the colder portion of the season. But, silence is golden, right? ]

V on the roof at night
Ororon never felt inclined to interrupt. not then (Mavuika's battle notwithstanding), and not now.
on the other hand... Dainsleif alone on the roof at night is a different thing altogether! one night, Ororon alights beside him with a perfectly friendly wave. ]
Good evening, M- Dainsleif. [ ahaha. ] Are you finding it more difficult to get to sleep in the cold, too?
no subject
Dainsleif knows, one of the main differences, in this very world lie within the reality of what it means to gaze upon a foreign sky. In the dead of the night, he can consider that there is a true validity hanging in what lies before his eyes. But, he is still unused to thinking that there will be any such thing in truth; as open as the people are, as clear as the land is in its open abundance, there will always be secrets.
But, today the specters of his own seem larger, as they always are, even in the still night. Sleep was never really something that came "easily" per say; Ororon's presence unexpectedly fills in, and he turns his gaze towards him. Even in the cold dark, he is a familiar presence that rests stark and melts into it, with the colors he wears. But there is that subtle warmth that is a juxtaposition against the frigid night. ]
Ororon. [ An acknowledgement. Then, a pause, before he answers: ] I am afraid that it may not be differences in temperature that keeps myself away up. More…habit, in the end, by now. Once someone has adapted to a certain way of living, it is difficult to make change.
…I’m certain you understand.
no subject
[ for a few too many reasons, Ororon understands - but he only smiles, the expression still subtle enough to remain slightly enigmatic. ]
I only asked because the cold is the easiest problem to address.
[ he could have gone to fetch a blanket or something hot to drink, after all. the only balm he has to offer for the rest is a spot of companionship while Dainsleif waits out the restlessness of another still night in peaceful embrace of paradise. ]
It's kind of like... finally trying to get some solo sleep under the peace and quiet of the stars after you've already gotten used to a shed full of congested Saurian whelps snoring and squeaking and rolling over on you all night.
[ okay, so that ended up being a very literal and specific metaphor... but there's a point imperfectly buried in there, somewhere. ]
no subject
Only to then be subject to the comparison given right after, a faint huff escaping him nonetheless, after the bit of surprise from the unique metaphor being used here. ]
...Very aptly put, perhaps.
Although, despite my recent activities in Natlan, I hadn't heard what the sound of a congested Saurian whelp would be like, imagination can very well suffice.
[ He turns to face Ororon again. ]
I do have to wonder, however - the example you provided also sounded very particular. Was it not only figurative speech, but also drawn upon personal experience?
no subject
[ surely. regardless, ]
I have had personal experience, though. Once you've helped out with a shed full of them, though, you'll never forget the noise.
[ and isn't that a little akin to how the body never forgets vigilance? ]
no subject
Even so, I would not be surprised if there were others. In many places, sayings are fairly common, and eventually can even be passed even from one generation to another.
[ Having been through many a land, sometimes even back through it once more, with its myriad changes over the years in mind, he has witnessed this himself. But, that aside... ]
...Well, that said, I do imagine there would be little issue with animals, and noises here when it comes to rest. Although, it would not be all that surprising if at some point there was an ask to assist in their upkeep in whichever ones may need a closer eye, even if domesticated.
no subject
Ah, that reminds me.
[ Ororon decides to sit on the rooftop beside Dainsleif, enjoying his conversation. ]
Have you ever seen a horse?
no subject
And then, he hears him talk upon the subject of 'horses'. Which, well, certainly do exist in Teyvat, and apparently in this world as well. ]
Yes, I have.
[ There seems to be a 'but' in here, somehow. ]
As you may or may not know, horses tend to spook easily. I have found that, here...I have had some trouble dealing with that when I took the time to assist with the Crownkeepers' horses. [ Unsurprisingly, Dainsleif would not be surprised if it is sensing the Abyssal corruption, or maybe the horse(s) do/does not like him. What is life without some kind of nonsense? ] I have suspicions towards the cause, although I couldn't be entirely certain.
Why is it you ask?
no subject
[ Ororon, being rather provincial, had never laid eyes on a horse before arriving in Rosavelle - if any horses ever existed in Natlan, the wild Saurians probably ate them long ago. and yet, considering the vast gulf of worldly experience between Dainsleif and himself, Ororon isn't very surprised to hear that Dainsleif was already familiar.
pluck any creature out a storybook, and Ororon would probably easily believe the other man has seen it. ]
I could sense that they were a little nervous, but the horse I met was very friendly and tame.
[ but of course, Ororon has that effect on others, doesn't he? almost soothingly gentle at his core, and not a speck of the Abyss on him. ]
...I have met friends here who volunteer at the Crownkeeper's stables. I could ask which horses are the calmest... do you think that would help?
no subject
Rather than contending with complicated thoughts, he should point out the likely reality. ]
…I do not know. This is likely to be time wasted on someone like myself.
If only because I suspect that the root cause is the presence of the Abyss within myself. Which may wind up interfering with any future or further effort, and I would rather not you or others go through too much trouble for it to result in nothing, or perhaps even causing any unnecessarily inconvenient consequences. Especially in regards to something so minor.
And if in the unlikely event it is not what I suspect, I still would not have high hopes.
[ There is a small pause, as he looks down at his hands which had settled in his lap. But, he sees fit to not think the considerate nature is something to not go commented upon. ]
Even so, I do truly appreciate the thought.
II. Never a Dull Moment
I was, but I wanted to ask if you need a spotter or anything. Dunno if that's just light or combustion, too.
no subject
...That said, he is not really in the habit of asking for help all that often. But, that is a work in progress, and it is honestly easier when someone has presented it as an offer first rather than him making the first ask. ]
I am making headway into a form of this land's magic—although, the intention is by a single glance that one will find their spirits...elevated, positively.
If you have an inclination towards assisting after understanding this, then I believe you would have need to read what I have written down.
no subject
Ah, you're making some kind of Bloomcraft charm to cheer people up! How sweet. 'Course I don't mind helping out with a project like that.
[Who doesn't like feeling happier? He turns his attention down to the paper.]
I just read this?
no subject
Nevertheless, you are correct. It would just take a moment.
[ Upon which he has written exists a basic paragraph amounting to words written with a "poetic flair" speaking about the nature of spring; of people watching particularly rare blooms opening up, and being caught up in its wonders.
He holds up the piece of paper proper so that Yoojin may properly read it. All things considered, it should do as suggested (although, depending on the mood of the individual, it may or may not be noticeable, thereby encumbering the noticeable effects. Dainsleif has yet to delve too deeply in exploring this...path of Bloomcraft, after all.) ]
...Let me know if you feel its effects as well.
